Humanized Reality
Between Perception and Existence
Yoonjung Lee’s sculptural paintings serve as a narrative exploration of mental health, self-acceptance, and the fluidity of identity. By layering acrylic paint to craft scenes reminiscent of realistic fairy tales, she balances spontaneity with intention—molding base forms with her hands before refining them with sharp tools. Subtle, cryptic inscriptions are embedded within her work, resembling whispered fragments of an overheard conversation. These layered elements invite curiosity, leading the viewer through an introspective journey where perception and reality blur. Figures within her paintings extend their hands, tempting engagement, yet leaving the question—should one reach back?
Her project, Yoonion, delves into the transformation of identity through experience, distortion, and time. Bloomi represents hope, while Boomy embodies fear—reflecting the continuous evolution of human existence. Within this shifting reality, perception does not conform to absolute truths but instead oscillates between memory, awareness, and external influences. Chains within her work symbolize breaking free from self-imposed limitations, reinforcing the idea that new possibilities emerge when old boundaries dissolve. In this liminal space, where days become memories and memories take on human form, Lee carves fragments of hope from the fog of uncertainty.
Yoonion, Bloomi, Boomi—these are not merely names but echoes where perception and existence converge.
인간화된 현실 인식과 존재 사이
이 프로젝트는 정체성, 기억, 그리고 외부 세계가 하나로 흐려지며 새로운 이해의 차원을 형성하는 공간을 탐구한다.
우리는 보이는 것과 느끼는 것, 그리고 실존하는 것 사이에 존재한다. Yoonion은 경험과 왜곡, 시간의 흐름 속에서 정체성이 어떻게 변화하는지를 탐구하는 캐릭터로 작가의 자아를 대신하는 단어로 쓰인다.
우리의 세계가 경계를 넘어 확장될 때, 현실은 고정된 것이 아니라 유동적인 것이 된다.
유니온은 세명의 친구와 함께한다. 그림 그리고 Bloomi는 희망을, Boomi는 두려움을 상징한다. 그림은 언제나 손만 뻗으면 닿을수있기에 자신이 여기있다며 손을 흔들며 알려준다. Bloomi의 현존하기와 인정을 통한 확장, Boomi의 깊은 흔들림, 두려움속에서 끊임없이 변하며 창조와 소멸이 반복되는 움직임 속에 놓인다.
인간화된 현실은 절대적인 진리에 순응하지 않고, 인식과 경험 사이를 유연하게 넘나든다.
밝음을 그리기 위해서는 먼저 어둠을 이해하는 이 과정에서 나는 천사와 악마를 비교하며 이중성(Duality)을 연구하게 되었다.
이를 통해 사물과 감정, 현상에 페르소나를 부여하여 인간화(Humanizing)하는 방식을 탐구하며, 단순한 인물화가 아닌 하나의 이야기로 확장된 장면을 만들고자 했다. 이 작업은 단순한 이미지가 아니라, 더 넓은 시각적 경험을 제공하는 하나의 장면(Scene)으로 존재한다.
이 시리즈에서는 공간 나눔이 중요한 요소로 등장하며, 왼쪽부터 바닥, 오른쪽으로 순차적으로 과거, 현재, 미래를 표현한다. 이를 통해 관객은 단순한 시각적 요소를 넘어, 존재의 다층적 의미를 경험할 수 있다.
이 작업은 고정되지도, 덧없지도 않은, 끊임없이 변화하는 정체성이 존재하는 공간이다.
하루는 기억이 되고, 기억은 인간화되며, 사람은 물체가 된다.
그 흐려진 경계 속에서, 나는 안개 속을 헤매며 희망을 조각한다.
